Sprinklers & Kiddie Pools

Memorial Day 2010: God Bless our military (past & present). Thank you for your sacrifices. You give anything so we can have everything. This brings back memories of my own childhood! Today Ryder & Serenity busted out the (way too small for them) kiddie pool and sprinkler. Water is really the only way to survive Phoenix Summers!! They were using the hose/sprinkler to create "rain" so they could play with the umbrella. Since it never rains in Phoenix, I guess this is a creative way to get use of your umbrellas! Sprinkler in the face = always fun.

Girlfriends & Martinis

There is nothing like a new release of a girlfriends' cult classic to bring together some good friends and good drinks. Following the tradition of most 20 & 30-something's, my girlfriends (some new and some old) and I met for martini's and then a showing of Sex and the City Two. Now, don't get me wrong... SATC2 is no great epic film... but the experience with my girls was worth it! Thank you Amber H for planning this, it was fun to get dressed up and feel girly.

Family-Only Camping!

With summer finally here and the 100 degree temps creeping up on us, it was time for our first family camping trip of the year. However it was a little like our own version of Clark Griswold's Family Vacation!!! In a nutshell:
  • Night before, we can't find our air mattress or pump.
  • Send Kasey to the store (mistake!) for a new one.
  • Kasey can't find it at Target (no idea why)
  • He heads to Walmart. Buys the wrong things, Ryder loses all the bait & tackle Kasey picked out.
  • Kasey shows up home at 10pm pissed but we all head off to bed excited (sort of) to camp in the morning.
  • Heading out of town Saturday morning we hit two major road closures and their respective detours. Now we know why people drink and drive (kidding of course).
  • Get to the campsite and sign says "FULL".
  • Before losing it, we decide to talk to the camp host, luckily he had just noticed one family packing up to leave.
  • SCORE! We get a site and start unpacking.
  • The lovely camp host then comes by and tells us he forgot to tell us that the high winds mean no campfire!
  • WHAT?! HOW CAN YOU CAMP WITH NO FIRE?!?!?!?!?!
  • Try fishing. No luck there.
  • Kasey and Ryder go to a different fishing spot and break Ryder's brand new fishing pole.
  • Camp host then informs us we can do a charcaoal BBQ. $20 later (thank you overpriced gas station) we have hot coal.
  • Camp host then informs us we can do a FIRE!!!! ($20 wasted) But alas we have FIRE and SMORES!!! Life is good.

All in all, we had a great time. Just seemed like what could irritate us, did go wrong.

This was the first time it was only Kasey, Ryder, and myself. So we kept it nto a short one night excursion. We camped at Christopher Creek near Payson AZ. The site was very rural (thumbs down) but it was very clean (thumbs up) and had a creek that ran right through it (thumbs up!!). Ryder had such a fun time with the creek. It was perfect for his age. He could walk in it and throw rocks. He was having fun finding worms under rocks and shooting his water gun. Kasey & Ryder tried to fish but it was unsuccessful. Poor guys!

End of Preschool, year one!

My little man! He had his last day of preschool today. He started at Miss Stephanie's school back in August 2009 if you will remember. Here is a look back at that day here. So much has changed! Besides the few inches he seems to have sprouted... He seems so much older and wiser now. Yes, I understand, he is only 9 months older, but its leaps and bounds different!
On his last day of school, Miss Stephanie helped the kiddos make these memory beach balls which proudly say "We had a BALL at Ms Stephanies!". This ball is Ryder's favorite toy du jour. He will be onto something else next week I'm sure. Miss Stephanie helped the kiddos fill in some favorite things over the past nine months. Here is what Ryder had to say! I find these answers very cute:
- My favorite part of preschool was.... picking flowers
- Something I learned.... helper jobs
- My friend was.... Zach
- My favorite job.... outside helper
The first few months at Miss Stephanies was a little difficult. Ryder had to learn a whole new way of sharing and interacting with classmates. His cousin Serenity started the year out with him. Those two kids are thick as theives and they had a little learning curve themselves to "let others into" their inner circle and make new friends. Ryder would get in trouble now and again for stealing toys from others' hands. I don't mean to make him out to be a bad guy because he really wasn't. What I'm trying to portray is the fact that he has really overcome all that! Not to mention his letters, numbers, drawing skills, singing, etc., that have grown!! My favorite thing is to hear Ryder break out into a little kids sing he learned at school.
I'm so thankful Miss Stephanie could teach him all these things. Being a full time working mom is hard stuff folks! I felt I couldn't give him enough "lessons" on these basic skills.
Ryder still has two more years before kindergarden. Because of his birthday, he will be the oldest kid in his class but I'm okay with that. He will certainly be ready to take his kindergarden class by storm!
